Empowering the Christian Imagination

JOHN JURADO is a BS Literature graduate of Manila Bible Seminary. He also took-up units on Technical Theatre and Management at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He is the executive director and co-founder of ArtisTREE Philippines, Inc. (The Artists, Trainings & Resources for Events & Empowerment). Member of the board of trustees and managing director of Daluyang Sining the ArtisTREE’s communtiy development channel. 

Last April 2011, he contributed to the
31st Provincial Convention of the Churches of Christ in Mindoro & Romblon as creative director. Every summer he’s conducting theatre arts workshop in various communities, cities and provinces. Year 2008 he’s been to Palawan for the 2nd Puerto Princesa City Summer Arts Workshop and Daluyang Sining Workshop. He organized the “Kaharian ng Haraya” a children and youth theater festival for the people of Puerto Princesa.

For years now, he’s been touring the country conducting improvisational and integrated theater arts workshop for dis-advantaged children, youth and communities. Helping empower elementary and secondary teachers to be creative and use culture and arts for education. Assisting churches and ministries to be creative and explore the Power of Theater and Arts to effectively demonstrate and declare the Message of Hope.

His written plays and theater directing credits include: “Basilio” a dula-tula presentation, “Maligayang Pasko ang Pagdiriwang ng Pag-asa” a musical concert, “Gumising Ka!” a dance drama centennial presentation (1997), “Katimuan” a street dance presentation, “Usok!” and “Kabataan sa Bagong Milenyo” a youth advocacy production (2000) for Angeles City High School Theater Guild and “Babae” a presentation for Angeles City Women’s Day celebration of the Gender and Development Office under Ms. Vicky Vega.

His recent written plays and directing credits includes: “Sa Ihip ng Alimuom” (2004), “Bata Batuta” a dance drama, “Paratang” (2006) and “Dyorni: Tru Lyf” (2007) for ArtisTREE Philippines touring production. “Puno/Lead” (May 2008) for Kaharian ng Haraya Festival in Palawan. “Kalayaang Filipino Dangal ng Kabitenyo” (Dec. 2008) for Divine Light Academy, Bacoor, Cavite. “Sa Kanyang Mga Sugat” (April 2009) a Passion Play for Our Lady of Queen Parish, Queensrow, Bacoor, Cavite. “Sagip Kalikasan” (2010) for Angeles National High School.

He also directed productions for the Christian Churches in Metro Manila which includes: “Okey Fine!” A youth advocacy (2002 Tayabas COC, Tondo), “Come Help Change the World” a dance drama (2002 Queensrow COC, Cavite), “Shine!” a youth musicale (2003 Tayabas COC, Tondo). “Whitelight” (2010 Liliw COC, Laguna).

He acted for PETA Children & Youth Theater Festival’s “Kahirapan nga Ba?” as the father, “The Martyrdom of Rizal” as Rizal for Teatro Arellano, “Angel” the Musicale as Andrew for CYF at Cruzada COC (1996), Dulaang Laboratoryo’s “Their Playing Our Song” as Vernon (2004). He also work for Dr. Anton Juan Jr. Dulaang UP’s “Tatarin” (2004) and for Floy Quinto’s “St. Louis Loves Dem Filipino the Musical” (2005). Kogma Festival as Banjiong a Bicolano epic hero at Camarines Sur for PostAd Venture, Inc. Directed by Troy Martino commissioned by Gov. Lray Villafuerte (2008). Rene Villanueva’s “Tiktipaklong” (2009) as Mr. Lawin for Tanghalang Angono.


Theater and arts has been his passion since childhood and he make it sure to always nurture his “artist within” through arts exposures, enhancements and trainings. He has committed his life in using theater and arts for the creative communication of Hope and to the empowerment of Christian Imaginations.

He believes that “Every artist must know the Creator of Art, grow in the Creator’s Art, serve the Master Artist and share the Master’s Art.” He also added that “Para sa malikhain at masayang produksyon; hindi dapat tayo ang inaalipin ng sining, tayo dapat ang umaalipin dito tungo sa pagbabago, pag-unlad ng tao, kultura at epektibong komunikasyon”
